Making heads for Snow White Pantomime

I was approached by a local theatre to construct 7 mascot-style foam heads for their production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The brief was to produce 3D heads which were breathable, fit on a child actors head comfortably and for the actor to see through the eyes. I was given this illustration below to work from. I researched building traditional mascot heads; where the 'skull' was made with foam. To keep costs down I painted the foam rather than covering in fleece. I did a costume fit with the actors, and built up the inside of each head to fit better. The show was a great success and the heads worked very well on the live shows.
